Iraqi policeman killed

An Iraqi police commander was gunned down Tuesday by assailants in northeastern Baghdad, police said.

Col. Mizhir Hamad Yousif, directer of the Abu Ghraib police station, was ambushed on his way to work by three gunmen, said Capt. Mohammed Izzedin. Yousif's driver was also injured in the attack, AP informs. The attack occurred around 9 a.m. in the northeastern neighborhood of New Baghdad, Izzedin said.

Insurgents frequently target Iraqi security forces in an attempt to further destabilize the country.
