Speaker of Kyrgyz parliament says negotiations with ousted president can only be on power transfer

The speaker of Kyrgyzstan's new parliament said Tuesday that negotiatiations with ousted President Askar Akayev can only concern a transfer of power.

"Negotiations with Akayev can only be on the transfer of power," Omurbek Tekebayev told The Associated Press. Earlier, Akayev said in a radio interview in Russia that he considers Tekebayev the only legitimate leader in Kyrgyzstan, and that he could negotiate with him.
