2nd Youth Delphic Games of CIS countries in Chisinau

The 2nd Youth Delphic Games of the CIS countries will be held in Chisinau from September 25 to October 1 in compliance with the decision of the CIS Prime Ministers' Council made on September 18, 2003.

"The forthcoming competitions will gather over 1,000 boys and girls aged 10-21 from 12 CIS countries," Artemy Ponyavin, deputy chairman of the executive committee of the Russian National Delphic Council, told RIA Novosti. According to him, the participants will compete in 19 categories, including pop, folk and academic singing, pop and folk dancing, circus, photography, poster, graffiti, web design, etc.

Each participant will have a ground of his own open for all comers, Mr. Ponyavin said adding that free admission will make the games the city holiday.

The jury includes prominent CIS culture figures, he reported.

Russia is forming its national team to participate in the Delphic Games. Representatives of 42 Russian regions, mainly prizewinners of Russian Delphic Games, are candidates to the team.

The Delphic Games date back to 582 BC. As well as the Olympic Games, they were prohibited 1,600 years ago and revived in the beginning of the 20th century. The Delphic arts festival was held once in three years in Greece from 1927 to 1936. The competitions were interrupted by World War II and resumed in 2000 involving 27 countries. The Russian National Delphic Council in Moscow held the first World Delphic Games of the present day.
