Most Americans consider Iraqi war a mistake, but want to execute Saddam

In June the majority of Americans turned to the opinon that the USA made a mistake by sending troops to Iraq, says the Gallup polling conducted for CNN television and the USA Today newspaper. Meanwhile, PRAVDA.Ru wrote that Americans still have tough opinion about the fate of the former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. About 60% of Americans welcome Saddam Hussein's execution in case he will be convicted of all war crimes.

Such is the result of a public opinion poll conducted by TNS Intersearch requested by ABC and "The Washington Post". 506 random people participated in the poll (human error-5%). 32% of US citizens consider life imprisonment to be most suitable punishment for Saddam. Another 8% remain uncertain about possible punishment for Saddam (perhaps, they do not have a clue who Saddam is in the first place).

When asked about what court should try Saddam Hussein, 52% of Americans replied that he should be tried by tribunal, created by the UN. Only 39% consider a possibility of Saddam's trial under Iraq's tribunal. 2% were anxious to see ex Iraqi leader to be tried in American court.
