Ricardo gives his team a ticket to the semifinals

Portugal became the first team to pass to the semifinals of Euro 2004 Thursday when it won over England 6-5 on penalties at the end of a magnificent game, which ended 2-2 after extra time.

Captain David Beckham could not score England's first penalty hitting the ball over the bar before Rui Costa missed for Portugal.

Moments later, Portugal goalkeeper Ricardo saved Darius Vassell's kick, England's seventh, and Ricardo himself scored himself putting his team into the semifinals and sparking mass celebrations across the nation.

During the game England took the lead three minutes in normal time through Michael Owen’s goal and the Portuguese equalized after 83 minutes through Helder Postiga.

Then, Rui Costa fired Portugal into the lead 20 minutes into extra time but England midfielder Frank Lampard made it 2-2 within five minutes.
