Ukraine formally agrees to NATO use of its planes

Representatives of NATO and Ukraine signed an agreement here Monday, giving NATO the right to use six freight-carrying Ukrainian An-124 aircraft and one An-225 plane for moving alliance troops and equipment to zones of conflict.

The signatories were the general secretary of NATO, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, and Ukraine Defense Minister Evgeny Marchuk. The signing took place during the third round of informal consultations between Ukraine and NATO held here June 6-7.
