Russian, US scientists to study Arctic together

The Far Eastern branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the International Arctic Research Center, University of Alaska, have signed an agreement on joint research in the Pacific part of the Arctic, the presidium of the Far Eastern branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

Cooperation will be carried out in the area involving the Pacific and the Arctic oceans between Alaska and Russia.

According to experts, environment in the Arctic region undergoes the most rapid changes, and this can have serious consequences of global processes. This is why there is a need for a bilateral program of scientific cooperation.

Within the cooperation, the sides can exchange delegations of scientists and students, and conduct joint research. Now preparations are underway for the second Russian-US expedition to the East Siberian Sea and the Laptev Sea due later this year.
