Polling station opens in Baghdad for Russian citizens to vote

A polling station opened in Baghdad at 08.00, the local time, where the Russian citizens will be able to take part in the presidential elections ahead of time, chairman of the election commission, counsellor of the Russian embassy in Iraq Alexei Solomatin, told RIA Novosti.

The polling station was opened in the building of the Russian consulate. A total of 350 Russians may take part in the voting on the territory of Iraq. About 150 of them are Russian construction workers who are building the heat and power station in the Yousefiah settlement, 30 km to the south of Baghdad. They will vote at their place of work for security reasons. The two-member election commission has already left for Yousefiah.

The polling station in Baghdad will be opened till 20.00 on Friday.

But taking into account the difficult security situation in Iraq, it is expected that the voting in Baghdad will end in the first half of the day.
