Iran's vice president calls U.S. statements on Iran's nuclear program illogic

The Iranian vice president and head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, Golam Reza Agazade called the statements made by the United States on the Iranian nuclear program illegal and illogic.

"In principle, anti-Iranian statements are not new news. The Americans have objected to Iran's cooperation with the IAEA [International Atomic Energy Agency] all along," said Mr. Agazade in an exclusive interview to RIA Novosti.

The vice president said, "American steps were taken not on the basis of international rules and basic norms, but on the basis of the use of force and pressure."

"Under the additional protocol to the NPT [Non-Proliferation Treaty], IAEA inspectors, on a regular basis, visit our nuclear installations and monitor our nuclear activities," said Mr. Agazade.

He refuted the reports, which said that documents and drafts for developing a centrifuge to enrich uranium had allegedly been found and that such documents and drafts had been concealed from the IAEA.

"The report we submitted to the International Atomic Energy Agency does not show the types of equipment, only the directions and kinds of our uranium enrichment activities," explained Mr. Agazade.

He said, "under the existing rules and agreements reached with the IAEA, Tehran does not have to inform the agency immediately about its research."

"The International Atomic Energy Agency will be informed immediately as soon as the nuclear research reports are drawn up," added the vice president.
