Tajikistan intends to draw greater attention of donor countries

An intermediate meeting of Tajikistan's donor countries and organizations will take place in London on February 9-10.

As the Tajik President's adviser for economic problems Faizullo Kholboboyev told reporters, "at this meeting we shall draw the attention of the donors to the projects which the government plans to carry out in the near future." These projects include the state investments program which has been revised with the account of the results of the last year's meeting, a report on the last year's purchases, an account on the aims of the millennium's development drafted jointly with the United Nations, a document on the strategy of lowering the poverty level, and so on.

The President's adviser said that in May last year a conference of Tajikistan's donor countries and organizations took place in Dushanbe under the aegis of the World Bank at which it was promised that 900 million dollars, out of which 700 million in the form of grants, would be allocated to the Republic of Tajikistan in 2004.

As a result of that meeting, he noted, the donors allocated 214 million dollars as of February 1, 2004.

"But we are not satisfied with this sum," Kholboboyev underscored. He said that the results of the intermediate meeting would depend on how much our projects will interest the donors.
