Toyota and Lexus sales in Russia treble in 2003

Toyota Motor (a subsidiary of Japanese Toyota Motor Corp) sold 17,624 cars through its official dealers in Russia over the first nine months of 2003, an increase of 299% year-on-year (only 5,876 cars were sold over the same period last year). This was announced to a Rosbalt correspondent today by a Toyota Motor spokesman. In total 16,739 Toyota cars and 885 Lexus cars were sold between January and September.

The most popular Toyota models were Corolla (6,209 cars sold), Camry (4,342 cars sold) and Land Cruiser 100 (2,257 cars sold). The most popular Lexus model remains the Landrover RX300 (546 were sold). President of Toyota Motor Norio Naka said total Toyota and Lexus sales in 2003 are expected to exceed 20 thousand (8,630 of these models were sold in 2003).

Toyota Motor Corp holds third place in the world for total car sales. The company sold 6.17 million cars in total last year. The company is represented on the Russian market by Toyota Motor.
