Kazakhstan reports oil slick in Caspian Sea

An oil leakage has occurred in a coastal area of the Caspian Sea in Kazakhstan, the press service of the Governor of the Kazakhstani city of Atyrau reported to RBC. Oil leakage from four oil wells, mothballed in the 1970s, was discovered yesterday during a regular inspection of oil and gas wells of the Caspian coastal area. At present, the wellheads are under water at a depth of 1 to 3 meters. The oil slick now covers the area of 1 km in length and up to 20 km in breadth.

An emergency team intended to localize oil leakages has been formed, and operations on localization and liquidation of oil spills are underway.
