IAEA inspectors leave for Iraq

The International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, will send a group of its inspectors to the nuclear research centre in Tuwaita, Iraq, reads the official statement released by the IAEA Secretariat in Vienna on Thursday.

"The IAEA intends to start the process of verifying the nuclear substances in Tuwaita from the point of view of their nuclear and environment safety in compliance with the Treaty on non-proliferation of nuclear weapons signed by Iraq," the document points out.

"IAEA inspectors' visit to Iraq has been coordinated with the US Administration, and the functions of this mission are limited to verifying Baghdad's nuclear commitments," IAEA representative in Vienna Melissa Fleming said.

She could not specify when exactly the inspectors would leave for Iraq.
