Agrements on Terms of Stay of Russian Military Base in Tajikistan Being Drafted

Russia and Tajikistan are preparing to sign agreements to "specify different aspects of the operation of the future Russian military base".

Ambassador of Russia to Tajikistan Maxim Peshkov said as much in an interview with the Asia-Plus agency.

According to him, the agreements include the questions of the location of the base, its property and composition.

Today Russia "has quite a number of projects of cooperation with Tajikistan in the economic, military-technical and cultural aspects, which will be submitted for consideration by the heads of both states during their meeting in Dushanbe," the Ambassador stated.

The treaty on setting up a Russian military base in Tajikistan was signed during the visit by president Emomali Rakhmonov to Moscow on April 16th, 1999.
