Kyrgyz President, Malaysian Premier to discuss counter-terrorism

Kyrgyz President Askar Akayev and Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad will discuss the problems of peace and stability as part of Akayev's visit to Malaysia, starting on August 2nd, the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti.

Akayev is to participate in the Langkaw International Forum, which is aimed at the consolidation of friendly relations between the developing countries and the ways of their integration into the global economy.

The Langkaw forum has been held on the initiative and under personal patronage of the Malaysian Prime Minister since 1995. More than 500 representatives of governmental and business circles from developed and developing countries participate in it every year. The 2002 forum will focus on global security and will be held on August 2nd-4th.

The official visit by the Kyrgyz President to Kuala Lumpur will start on August 5th. Askar Akayev is scheduled to meet with the King of Malaysia and to hold official talks with the Prime Minister. The sides are to discuss further consolidation and expansion of political and economic cooperation between the two countries and to sign several agreements on further development of inter-state relations in the spheres of banking, statistics, industry and trade.

Askar Akayev and Mahathir Mohamad shall discuss prospects for trade and economic cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Malaysia in the spheres of information technologies, hydro-electric engineering, mining industry and tourism.

Askar Akayev will complete his official visit to Malaysia on August 7th.
