Russian Foreign Minister arrives in Brunei

Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Igor Ivanov today arrives in Brunei to take part in events to be organised by the Association of South East Asian Nations /ASEAN/. He will represent Russia at the Ninth Session of the ASEAN Regional Security Forum and at post-ministerial conferences in the formats of ASEAN+10 /the ASEAN dialogue with all partner countries/ and the ASEAN+1 /the bilateral ASEAN-Russia dialogue/.

As the RIA Novosti correspondent was told by official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Yakovenko, the ASEAN Regional Security Forum is "a unique, the only one mechanism today for a non-governmental dialogue on the key aspects of life of the Asia-Pacific Region and on the searches for joint replies to the challenges the region faces." The members of the Forum, apart from the ASEAN, are Russia, the United States, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and also the European Union. This year, anti-terrorist themes play an important role in the Forum's activity. For the Brunei session the Forum has prepared its Declaration on financial measures to counter terrorism and a set of anti-terrorist recommendations to the Forum participants.

In the context of the post-ministerial conferences in the ASEAN+10 and the ASEAN+1 formats, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs will conduct several bilateral meetings, in particular, with his counterparts from the United States, China, Japan and India.
