Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Anatoly Kvashnin will discuss the issues of military and military-technological cooperation between the two countries with Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nicaragua Javier Carrion, reported the sources in the Russian Defence Ministry.
The programme for the one-week visit by the Nicaraguan general provides also for his meetings with representatives of the Committee for Military-Technological Cooperation and of the Rosoboronexport company, for his visit to the Gagarin Air Force Academy, his meeting with the Commander of the Leningrad Military District, as well as for a vast cultural programme in the Russian capital and in Saint Petersburg.
It will be called that at the present time the Nicaraguan armed forces have a great amount of Soviet-made arms and ammunition which the country was receiving since the 1970s when the government of People's Unity came to power in Nicaragua. Now they need repairs and modernisation.
