Over 300 Foreign Ships Detained By Russia's Pacific Frontier-guards In 2001

More than 300 foreign ships were detained by the frontier-guards of the Pacific Department of the Russian Federal Frontier Service since the beginning of 2001 for violating Russia's state border. As a result of the actions of the Far Eastern frontier-guards, over 5.5 million roubles were transferred to the budget of the country. General Nikolai Reznichenko, First Deputy Director of the Russian Federal Frontier Service, spoke about it at a news conference in Vladivostok. According to the general, a flotilla of new high-speed frontier ships is being built at the Khabarovsk shipyard with the aim of strengthening the sea frontier forces in the Russian Far East. Some of them, said Reznichenko, are already guarding the Russian sea borders in the Pacific Ocean and in the Amur River.
