Russian General: Land War In Afghanistan Will Not Bring Desired Results

Governor of the Moscow region, Lieutenant-General in retirement and former C-in-C of Soviet forces in Afghanistan, Boris Gromov believes that a land war in Afghanistan will not produce the desired results. In his opinion, the most effective policy would be to conduct lightning strikes, which would, in turn, require thorough preparation and intelligence gathering. Moreover, the governor believes that huge resources would be necessary to carry out this kind of operation. "I believe that the people who carried out the terrorist attacks in the USA should be punished, wherever they may be," said Gromov. At the same time, he stressed that they could not be associated with any religion, as they were "outside of any faith."
