Struggle Against Terror Incompatible With NATO Eastward Enlargement

Russian Security Council Secretary Vladimir Rushailo stated Thursday that only a broad anti-terrorist coalition without any bloc or union frameworks would strengthen the system of international and European security. Meeting with journalists Thursday he shared his impressions of the international Warsaw conference on combating terrorism. Combating terrorism, Rushailo emphasised, is one of the key tasks facing the world community at the current stage and it should not be used to conceal other goals set. The Secretary of the Russian Security Council noted that the leaders of some Western countries assert that NATO expansion will contribute to combating terrorism, however, in the course of the conference in Warsaw none of them could explain in what way precisely. NATO enlargement, already done and being planned, has nothing to do with enhanced struggle against international terrorism, Rushailo believes. On the contrary, creation of a broad anti-terrorist coalition without any bloc or union frameworks will undoubtedly be conducive to strengthening the security system without dividing lines in Europe and the entire world, as well as developing international cooperation and mutual understanding, Vladimir Rushailo emphasised.
