6+2 Group For Afghanistan Back Russia's Ideas

Russia's ideas have been backed by members of the 6+2 Group for Afghanistan and are reflected in the final document of the meeting, said Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov on results of the meeting between the Group's foreign ministers. He said it was a thorough exchange of opinions regarding a future post-conflict Afghanistan. Discussion pivoted on two questions, he said. First, what would the international community like to see as the future government of Afghanistan and what aid it can give to Afghans in developing a stable state, which will never again emanate terrorist, narcotic and other threats. "We noted during the discussion that we want to see Afghanistan as a peaceful, truly independent state with widely-represented and multiethnic government", said the chief of the Russian foreign policy establishment. To him, the sides stressed that for the Taliban movement, which has dishonoured itself by support for international terrorism, there is no place in the future power structures of Afghanistan. Igor Ivanov again stressed that these ideas have won backing from other members of the Group and are reflected in the final document of the meeting.
