Finland: Russian-language Radio Company Facing Doom

The Sputnik Finlandii, Finland's only Russian-language radio company working round the clock stops casting Friday, 1 am, Moscow time, chief editor Roman Kozyrev announced to the audience. Broadcasting is indefinitely suspended with overdue bills. The company came into dire straits three months ago as Russian stockholders stopped financing it, disappointed with an utter lack of profit, Mr. Kozyrev said to Novosti. The Sputnik Finlandii was established two years ago and appeared on the air, September 20, 1999. It is well loved by Finland's Russian-speaking community of 30,000, and has faithful world web audiences in the USA, Canada and Germany.
