There are plans to deliver some 40 percent of humanitarian cargoes to Afghanistan through Uzbekistan. The Uzbek Emergencies Ministry reports that the cargoes will be delivered through the Termez river port. The USAID International Development Agency which is helping the UNO in delivering humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan has sent a special group of 6 experts to Uzbekistan to render material-technical and communications support to the delivery of humanitarian cargoes to Afghanistan. The US embassy in Tashkent says that before the winter sets in it is necessary to take all possible measures and use any available channels to provide Afghanistan with humanitarian aid. The Uzbek Emergencies Ministry press service notes that, taking into consideration the long-term basis of humanitarian deliveries, the US International Development Agency has expressed its readiness to provide the Termez port with loaders and heavy-duty trucks which might be used by the Emergencies Ministry for setting up an emergencies team for delivering humanitarian cargoes to Afghanistan.
