Russia, Kazakhstan To Sign Agreement On Gas Cooperation

Russian prime minister Mikhail Kasyanov and his Kazakh counterpart Kasymzhomart Tokayev have set down to negotiating table in the Russian house of government. The talks are to be crowned with two agreements to be signed, including on cooperation in the gas sector. According to the Russian prime minister, Russia is interested in cooperation with Kazakhstan and this is confirmed by the fact that both heads of federal agencies and chief executives of Russia's behemoth corporations are present at the negotiations. In particular, attending the talks are Gazprom head Alexei Miller and RAO UES CEO Anatoly Chubais. Mikhail Kasyanov stressed that Russia was satisfied with the development of collaboration between the two countries. The bilateral dialogue is becoming increasingly dynamic, concrete economic achievements can be seen, and all these results should be cemented, he said. Kasymzhomart Tokayev, in turn, congratulated Kasyanov on the fact that the Caspian pipeline consortium had got down to practical activities as a strategic project and an example of bilateral cooperation in the energy domain. The Russian premier, on his part, stressed that the implementation of the project had required much effort and investment. He also remarked that US businessmen who had participated in the project's realisation were also happy about the good start the sides had jointly made in this direction.
