Moscow Is Satisfied With Results Of UN Voting On Abolition Of Blockade Against Cuba

Moscow positively appraises the results of the UN General Assembly voting on the issue of removing the economic, trade, and financial blockade introduced by the US against Cuba. "We regard the voting results as an explicit indication that the international community is ready to do away with the embargo, a survival of the cold war which is absolutely inconsistent with the 21st century's realities," Foreign Ministry officials told a RIA Novosti correspondent. The Foreign Ministry hopes that normalization of the Cuban-American relations could become reality in the near future. It is the 10th General Assembly resolution on the need to remove the blockade which the US introduced in 1962. The resolution was supported by 167 out of the 189 UN member states. Only the US, Israel, and the Marshall Islands voted against it.
