The Central American Command admitted “A woman and a boy died when packets of wheat and blankets dropped by planes flew over their house”. The incident took place on Tuesday on the border with Uzbekistan, 75 km. north of Mazar-i-Sharif.
The official message declared “The United States deeply regrets any unnecessary loss of life. We take a lot of time and effort to choose the places where our humanitarian aid is dropped”.
The packets were dropped by parachute from a great height. Some of these aid packages weigh up to 900 kg.
