UN Worried About Humanitarian Situation In Kandahar

United Nations and other charity organisations are worried about the situation in Kandahar, a region that suffers from acute shortage of food and medical supplies and is harassed by gangs of looters. Direct clashes between Pashtoon field commanders ceased after the sides reached an agreement and Gul Agha Sherzai was appointed to head the local administration. Sherzai promises to mop the neighborhood of Kandahar clean of bandits and Taliban fighters and to organise a search of Taliban and Al-Qaeda leaders, but "only after Kandahar has established law and order." In the past few days, the city was once again invaded by Pashtoon field commanders striving to get seats in the new administration.
