The United States is planning to carry out a special operation in Somalia to deliver strikes on the bases of the terrorist organisation Al-Qaeda which are situated there, British mass media reported on Thursday. According to their information, in Washington they do not deem it expedient to carry out in Somalia such an extensive military operation with massive air raids as it is being done in Afghanistan, since the Al-Qaeda terrorist network is of a limited scale in that African country. For this reason, the USA is planning to use rangers for delivering strikes on the terrorists, employing Kenya as a ground bridgehead for this purpose. As mass media claim, the question of letting the Kenyan territory be used for carrying out such an operation by the Americans was discussed at their request by Defence Secretary of Great Britain Jeoffrey Hoon with the president of Kenya during the Secretary's stay in Nairobi early this week.
