Putin And Zemin Discuss U.s. Decision To Pull Out Of Abm

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chairman of the Republic of China Jiang Zemin had a telephone conversation Thursday, following the announcement by the United States of its intention to withdraw from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty (ABM), reports the Kremlin press service. The two leaders see eye to eye on problems of maintaining strategic balance in the world and preserving international stability and security, says the Kremlin press service. In this connection, the sides underscored the importance of stepping up their joint effort to prevent international destabilization and of pursuing a consistent course toward a reliable strategic stability system, based upon international legal mechanisms, Kremlin spokespeople report.
