Us Political Scientist: Washington Should Have Found Less Radical Way Out Of Abm Treaty

The United States should have found a less radical way of withdrawing from the ABM Treaty, President of the Nixon Centre Dmitry Simes, a well-known US political scientist, said in Moscow on Tuesday. According to him, it would have been possible to find another solution to this problem taking into consideration the fact that so far the USA has not developed any military-technical programmes requiring a withdrawal from the Treaty. At the same time the US political scientist expressed his confidence that the US withdrawal from the ABM Treaty was "historically inevitable" and that an NMD system being developed in the USA would not be aimed against Russia. Instead, Simes thinks, Moscow has received Washington's consent to registering the proposed strategic offensive arms cuts in a corresponding agreement.
