Russia Is Not Indifferent To How Political And Military Situation In Afghanistan Will Shape Up

Russia "is not indifferent" to how the political and military situation in Afghanistan will shape up further on, special envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Zamir Kabulov who arrived in the Afghan capital on Wednesday told the RIA Novosti correspondent. "It is important to us that a threat to Russia's interests, specifically to strategic stability, should not emanate from Afghanistan", the Russian diplomat said. But Moscow does not set itself the aim of bringing a pro-Russian government to power in Kabul, he stressed. The Russian diplomat noted that an official ceremony of transfer of power by the administration of President of Afghanistan Burhanuddin Rabbani to head of the provisional government Hamid Karzai will be held in Kabul under the UN aegis on December 22. Presumably, up to 15,000 UN peace-keepers will enter Afghanistan by the day of the ceremony. They will be deployed in Kabul, Herat, Kandagar and Mazar-i-Sharif.
