Iran's Ambassador Walks Out Of Baku Conference On Islam And Terror

Iran's ambassador to Azerbaijan, Gazai, walked out of a conference on "Islam and Terror: True Understanding and Distortions", being held in Baku, capital of Azerbaijan. The ambassador did so in protest against the presence at the conference of an Israeli ambassador. "It is universally known that it is Israel that is a terrorist state. It is the Palestinian people, not individual persons, who are subjected to terror without motive. And inviting to such a meeting a representative of that country means that its aim is not to find causes and roots of terrorism," said Gazai. In his opinion, a 13-minute footage, "Islam Curses Terrorism", shown at the beginning of the conference, "depicted Palestinians, not Israelis, as terrorists". Israel's ambassador to Azerbaijan, Eitan Nae, in his turn, said that he was far from reacting in any way to such a demarche. "Each side sticks to its own views", he said. The conference, which is being attended by well-known theologians from a number of countries, including Russia, as well as representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in Azerbaijan, will finish its work on December 21.
