Serbian Socialists happy with Milosevic

Even after his kidnapping and illegal detention at the Hague, ex-president Slobodan Milosevic enjoys great popularity within his party, the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS). Ivica Dacic, the Head of the Central Committee of the SPS, described the ex-leader’s popularity rate as “higher than ever before” and denied that the party was planning to replace Slobodan Milosevic in the first quarter of the new year.

It was, however, admitted that Milosevic’s enforced absence complicated communications with the party secretariat.

Dacic also said that the leader “does not interfere much in the work” of the party and allows the local officials to run matters as best they can until he returns.

The first case against Slobodan Milosevic will take place in January at the International Penal Court at the Hague. Neither Slobodan Milosevic nor the United States of America agree with the Statutes of this court. Mr. Milosevic considers it illegal, while the US Congress refuses to ratify it.
