USA Imposes Economic Sanctions Against Ukraine

The US government imposed sanctions against Ukraine on Thursday in the form of restrictive import rates for Ukrainian-made metals, footwear and other industrial goods, reported the press service of the White House's office of the US spokesman for trade negotiations. According to the report, introduction of restrictive rates in the amount of $75 million was prompted by Ukraine's failure to adopt a law against CD piracy. $75 million is the sum of estimated damages the US suffers from Ukrainian-made counterfeit CDs annually. The rates are effective beginning January 23, 2002, reads the report.
