Referendum On Extension Of Presidential Term To Be Held In Uzbekistan

A referendum on whether to extend the constitutional term of office for Uzbekistan's president will be held in this country on January 27, 2002. The voters will be asked to answer one question: "Do you agree that the presidential term of office is increased from 5 to 7 years?" The decision to hold the referendum was made at the 7th session of Uzbekistan's parliament on Thursday.
