Russia and Tajikistan Prepare Agreement on Conditions for Russian Military Base Deployment

Russia and Tajikistan are preparing agreements, which "specify various aspects of the activity of the future Russian military base, for signing," reported Russian ambassador to Tajikistan Maxim Peshkov in an interview with Asia-Plus agency.

According to him, the agreements stipulate the place for the deployment of the base, its property and composition.

As of today, the ambassador said, Russia "has a number of projects for cooperation with Tajikistan in economic, hydropower, military, technical and cultural aspects which will be submitted for consideration of the heads of both states during their meeting in Dushanbe." The treaty on creating the Russian military base in Tajikistan was signed during the Moscow visit of president Emomali Rakhmonov on April 16, 1999.
