Bombings in Iraq May Provoke Earthquakes in the South Caucasus

Bombings of Iraq, in case the bombs used are as powerful as those used in Afghanistan, may provoke severe earthquakes in the South Caucasus and high-seismicity areas adjacent to Iraq, believes Sergei Balasanian, the Chairman of the Armenian Association of Seismology and Physics.

"Since Armenia too is situated in a high-seismicity area, we can expect earthquakes too," he says.

In his opinion, bombings may also provoke earthquakes in Central Asia.
