Iraqi Mass Media Call upon UN Security Council Not to Adopt a New Resolution on Iraq

In the name of preserving peace the UN Security Council must reject the idea to adopt a new resolution on Iraq, says the editorial of the Monday issue of the Iraqi newspaper Babil, published by President Saddam Hussein's elder son Uday. The US, Babil writes, is urging to adopt a new resolution despite the fact that Iraq fulfils all UN decisions and actively co-operates with international observers.

"Turning down the American dominance in the UN Security Council will become a victory of all humanity, the triumph of lawfulness and moral," says the editorial.

In its turn, the Iraqi government's newspaper Al-Jumhuriya believes that "the Security Council will be able to preserve its independence and regain the confidence of the international community if it refuses to execute American commands." In the newspaper's opinion, "the American administration is displeased with every resolution by the UN Security Council." "It needs a new one, which will ensure an international cover for the aggression against Iraq," writes Al-Jumhuriya.
