Baghdad Asks Arab League to Postpone Arab Summit for Three Weeks

Baghdad has asked the League of Arab States /LAS/ to postpone the forthcoming Arab summit for three weeks.

The Iraqi newspaper As Saura reported on Monday that an official request on that account was delivered the day before by the Iraqi permanent representative to the LAS.

In his turn, Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri, who is taking part in the meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement member countries in Kuala Lumpur, explained that request by the fact that the remaining three weeks before March 14 are a "very important period" for Iraq.

"For us," the Iraqi foreign minister told Qatar TV company Al Jazeera, "every day and every minute are important." In his words, Iraq must "concentrate its efforts on the search for answers to unsolved questions" on its previous armaments programs, put to Iraq by UNMOVIC.
