Russian Sailing Frigate Nadezhda Continues Its Round-the-World Cruise

The Russian sailing frigate Nadezhda with Moscow University cadets training in Vladivostok on board continues its round-the-world cruise. On Saturday it left Singapore and headed for the Indian Ocean.

The frigate put to sea from Vladivostok on January 25. The cruise is devoted to the 200th anniversary of the first round-the-world cruise of the Russian sailing vessels, guided by famous Russian seafarers Ivan Kruzenshtern and Yuri Lisyansky.

All in all, 120 third-year University students are taking part in the current cruise. For them, this is both practice and training in nautical astronomy, the fundamentals of navigation, sailing directions and English.

An expedition of Russian scientists, who are conducting ocean and atmosphere research, is also on board the ship.

The cruise will last for over a year. Its participants will visit over 20 ports of the world.
