Moscow Considers Discussion of Kosovo's Final Status to Be Premature

Moscow considers examination of Kosovo's final status to be inexpedient at this stage, Russian foreign minister Igor Ivanov said meeting Serbian vice premier Nebojsa Covic.

During the meeting, the sides paid special attention to Kosovo settlement, reported the Russian foreign ministry.

In the sides' estimate, the situation in the province, despite some changes for the better, is still very complicated. The participants in the meeting believe that work to normalize the situation in Kosovo in general in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244 must be continued.

Ivanov and Covic also discussed issues related to the recent transformation of Federal Yugoslavia into a state community of Serbia and Montenegro. The Russian foreign minister expressed satisfaction with "Belgrade's and Podgorica's striving to abide by the agreements aimed at the preservation of a single state."
