Shanghai rescuers help Russian seamen in Taiwan Strait

A Shanghai rescue vessel assigned to the Taiwan Ministry of Transportation and Communication conducted a successful operation rescuing Russian seamen in the Taiwan Strait. The rescue operation was conducted in adverse weather conditions with a strong winter wind.

Chinese sources said on Friday that a generator had got out of order on the Russian fish-processing vessel when on its way from Vladivostok to Vietnam. As a result the vessel started drifting towards the Taiwan Strait. The wind force was up to 8 at that time.

Under an instruction of the Taiwan Ministry of Transportation and Communication, a rescue vessel started off to help the Russian fish-processing ship. Twenty-three Russian seamen were taken on board of the Taiwan rescue vessel. On December 31 they arrived at the port of Xiamen in Fujian province.
