UN inspectors attend the testing of Iraqi missile on Thursday

The UN inspectors were present on Thursday at the testing of an Iraqi missile.

The testing, says the press-release by UNMOVIC and IAEA spokesman Hiro Ueki, was carried out at a proving ground 200 km to the west of Baghdad.

The testing involved "the modified version of the Iraqi missile" with a range permitted by the UN resolutions on Iraq. The UNMOVIC group of specialists had a possibility to get acquainted with the missile and its parameters before its launch.

The second UNMOVIC group inspected the factory for the production of Akai antibiotics located 30 km to the south of the Iraqi capital. Despite the fact that this was a day-off for the factory, the inspectors were able to inspect in detail all the buildings and fulfil all their tasks successfully." On the same day, IAEA inspectors inspected five different facilities, and visited again the company IBN-SINA located 40 km to the north of Baghdad. Earlier this facility had accommodated a uranium enrichment factory, which was destroyed during the operation Desert Storm. Representatives of the IAEA were able to "fully inspect the production areas and the laboratories, including the inspection of the facility and the adjacent territory with gamma rays," says the press-release.
