Navigational mistake caused the accident with the Russian "Murman" trawler near the Norwegian coast

The cause of the accident with the Russian "Murman" trawler that took place last week near the Norwegian coast is established. According to the information provided by the Murmansk company "Murman Seafood", the owner of the ship, the accident took place due to a navigational mistake.

According to the source, the ship was holed in the area of the engine compartment and in the course of several minutes solidly settled on the rock 1 mile from the port at the Norwegian island of Anneia. 32 crew members were evacuated by the Norwegian rescue ship "Annensik-1" and delivered to the port of the Andenes island.

420 tons of fuel oil and 12 tons of lubricating oil were pumped out by specialized Norwegian vessels. Minor spill of fuel and lubricating substances was eliminated. Presently the vessel solidly sitting on the rocks does not represent any serious ecological threat.

According to the information from the company, presently an expert commission is working near the Anneia island to make a final conclusion on causes of the catastrophe and to decide what to do with the ship. Owners are inclined to sink the Murman in the area defined by Norwegian authorities, as restoration of the trawler does not seem to be economically expedient.
