Embassy of Belarus in Russia to open department in Nizhny Novgorod

A representation of the Belarussian embassy in the Russian Federation will be opened in Nizhny Novgorod (an administrative centre in the Volga Federal District). The Belarussian diplomatic mission reported on Monday that the department would presumably begin to work in two months' time.

The decision to open the department was taken by the Council of Ministers of Belarus to boost cooperation with the regions of the Volga Federal District. The Russian government agreed to open the representation. Organisational problems are currently being settled. The question of opening a representation of the Nizhny Novgorod Region in Belarus is being studied now.

As was noted at the Belarussian embassy, during the first half of the current year trade between Belarus and the Volga Federal District totalled over 270.2 million US dollars.

Belarus's export to that region consists mainly of deliveries of tractors and farm machinery, spare parts and equipment for the production of automobiles, tyres, petrochemical products, refrigerators, TV sets, and products of the light and wood-working industries.

The Nizhny Novgorod region ranks 7th in terms of the trade with Belarus among the Russian regions being the 5th in exports, and the 8th in imports.

Belarussian enterprises are interested in increasing deliveries of hydrocarbon raw materials, means of land transportation, high-tech production lines and equipment from the Volga district.
