Georgian President sends letter to Putin

Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze has sent a letter to RussianPresident Vladimir Putin in connection with the recent bombings of Georgianvillages that were committed by Russian aircraft, as Georgia claims. TheGeorgian President voiced this statement at a briefing in Tbilisi today. Hepointed out that there were no doubts that the bombings of Georgia onAugust 23 were made by Russian aircraft. The fact that Russian combatplanes bombed Georgian villages has been confirmed not only by Georgianrepresentatives but also by international observers, Shevardnadze stressed.According to him, the letter contains not only concrete facts but also hisviewing of further development of the bilateral interstate relations.Speaking about actions of Georgian law enforcement agencies, in the eventbombings are repeated, Shevardnadze declared that "in the event theseincidents happen again, Georgia should do what an independent state does insuch cases".
