Georgia, Abkhazia Come to Terms as to Kodori Ravine

According to the statement made yesterday at a meeting of the Georgian government by Avtandil Jorbenadze, Georgia's State Minister, 'Abkhazia will no longer demand that Georgia withdraw from the Kodori Ravine'. He also said that armed Abkhazians had begun withdrawing from the ravine, which is now controlled by Georgia. Besides, the two parties agreed to jointly clear the area of landmines. The statement was made after Avtandil Jorbenadze had consulted with Anri Jergenia, Abkhazian Prime Minister, over telephone.

The delegation of Georgia came to the Village of Chuburkhinji in Abkhazia on Tuesday for negotiations. The talks were disrupted by armed clashes in the ravine. The State Minister flew to the area for a first-hand look, promising to return, which he never did. The negotiations were concluded over telephone.
