Shanghai Cooperation Organisation ready to establish anti-terrorist cooperation with all nations

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is ready to cooperate energetically with all nations in a bid to fight international terrorism, Vitaly Vorobyov, the Russian Special Presidential Envoy for SCO affairs, was quoted as saying on Tuesday in Bishkek.

Vorobyov arrived in Bishkek on Saturday, as part of his Central Asian tour covering three regional countries - Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

According to him, a present-day SCO objective of the utmost importance is to establish cooperation with all parties concerned in order to find a solution to problems the organisation is facing now.

The Russian Special Presidential Envoy emphasised that Mongolia, Iran, Pakistan and India had already voiced their desire to join the organisation. He believes that many Western European and American countries, as well as many international organisations, including NATO and the OSCE, are becoming increasingly interested in the SCO. In particular, this refers to the participation in the organisation's activities as observers, Vorobyov added.

When speaking about the SCO leaders' position concerning the Iraqi issue, the Russian Special Envoy said that the SCO leaders had come to a unanimous agreement at the recent SCO summit in St. Petersburg that all issues related to Iraq should be solved politically and peacefully, while all sanctions against the country should be approved by the UN Security Council.
