Slobodan Milosevic supports radical Vojislav Seselj as presidential candidate

Former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic has proposed to the leadership of the Serbian Socialist party, of which he is the chairman, to support leader of the Serbian Radical party Vojislav Seselj as a presidential candidate. A letter with the proposal was received by the party leadership.

The question concerns joint support of a common candidate at the Serbian presidential election due on September 29th, as he will thus have more chances of winning.

The parties comprising the government of the national unity that existed till October 2000 should unite all other opposition parties, all patriotically spirited organizations and individuals who have a similar stand regarding the policy of the incumbent Serbian authorities, says the ex president in the three-page letter.

It should be noted that last Saturday the Socialist party of Serbia started to collect signatures for nominating Slobodan Milosevic as its candidate, though the republican election committee had warned that Milosevic could not run for presidency, as he had already been elected president of Serbia twice, in 1990 and 1992.
