Moscow is hopeful new Bolivian President will contribute to strengthening of cooperation between two countries

On Tuesday representatives of the department of information and press of the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Moscow was hopeful that the newly elected Bolivian President would "make a new contribution into strengthening of the multi-faceted cooperation" between the Russian and Bolivian peoples.

It was reported earlier that on August 4 out of two candidates with the largest number of votes received during the June elections the National congress of Bolivia voted to elect Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada, representative of the National Revolutionary movement party, the new President of the country.

The Russian Foreign Ministry "stated with satisfaction that the elections were carried out on the basis of the Bolivian constitution in accordance with universally recognized democratic procedures and contributed to strengthening of stability in the country and on the Latin American continent in general." In addition to that the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed confidence that "the newly elected President who headed the republic of Bolivia in 1993-1997 would preserve continuity of progressive development of traditionally friendly relations with Russia."
